Interview with artist Slava Nikolaev —

1. Who are you and what do you do?
I am Slava Nikolaev, an artist and I draw all the time. In breaks, I became a husband, a father, and a grandfather.

2. Why art?
I can not live without art. Illustrator, graphic artist, engineer, decorator, cabinet maker and yet art. I can say more by brush than by words.

3. What is your earliest memory of wanting to be an artist?
Memory tells me that I was born an artist.

4. What are your favorite subject(s) and media(s)?
Pencil and Internet.

5. How do you work and approach your subject?
I am very observant and have good visual memory.

6. What are your favorite art work(s), artist(s)?
The fantasy of Max Ernst and the air perspective of Diego Velázquez  and  J. M. W. Turner.

7. What are the best responses you have had to your work?
Children are the best viewers. They often bring their very busy parents. After daddy and mamma shake my hand – Thank you that you did not let us forget that we are people. And one very influential, well-known, rich owner of the art fund asked me – Slava, why are very wealthy people do not want to create a museum of your masterpieces? Really, why?

8. What do you like about your work?
That small step forward of all the Art, when I came up with my drawing technique. The technique of Nikolaev.

9. What advice would you give to other artists?
Draw!

10. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
As always, I’m in the workshop. Workshop in a museum or in the fund of my name. Many viewers with children)SDV
