Alexandra Serres – ARTIST
Interview with the artist Alexandra Serres
1. Who are you and what do you do?
I’m still looking for the answer to the first question. On a basic level, I am a french artist living in Normandy. I try to tickle people’s souls with paint.
2. Why art?
Because shapes, colors and images are often louder than words
3. What is your earliest memory of wanting to be an artist?
6-7 years old. I was asked to illustrate a poem with a drawing…it was THE revelation for me
4. What are your favorite subject(s) and media(s)?
I like doors, female nudes and above all textures. Other than that, I think there is beauty in everything. It is just a matter of looking at things the right way. As for medias, it has to be paper and watercolor.
5. How do you work and approach your subject?
I mostly like to make a watercolor background. I let the paint flow, create textures and effects, then use that a bit like a Rorschach ink stain and leave my mind to decide what it sees
6. What are your favorite art work(s), artist(s)?
I’m always in awe of Da Vinci. Mucha, Klimt, Turner, Dali…and many modern artists. There are so many talented people out there.
7. What are the best responses you have had to your work?
When people do not find words to express what they feel.
8. What do you like about your work?
Doing it.
9. What advice would you give to other artists?
Oh dear! No idea. Maybe : break the rules.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
Everywhere.
