1. Who are you and what do you do ?
My name is Jérôme Royer, and I’m a French contemporary artist. I live in Fontenay-sous-bois (just outside of Paris). I’m a professional draftsman and self-taught artist and I love using watercolour to express myself.

2. Why art?
It was not “why”, it was more like “why not”! I have always drawn, sketches, caricatures ….  and recently I realized I could do more, and started experimenting with different techniques.

3. What is your earliest memory of wanting to be an artist?
Actually, I never thought of becoming an artist. It all began when I started to post my pictures on Instagram, and a lot of people around the world found my page and urged me to continue, then I started to take my art more seriously.

4. What are your favorite subject(s)/ media?
I love portraiture, especially working on the features, eyes, lips  …etc. I like to work with watercolour and acrylic, but watercolour is my preferred media to express my feelings. I can mix the power of the subject with the softness of watercolour or vice-versa use the strength of colour with the gentleness of the subject.

5. How do you work and approach your subject?
Usually I try to focus on the facial expression or a particular pose, the watercolour process is always like that; I start to draw the subject in lead pencil, then I paint with watercolour and let my feelings lead my hand and brush, then I finish with black ink and white gel.

6. What are your favorite art work(s), artist(s)?
My favorite artists are Enki Bilal, Agnes Cecile and Ryan Hewett.

7. What are the best responses you have had to your work?
I love when my art touches people, I post my paintings on Instagram regularly, and I’m always touched when I see nice comments from my followers. One of the best comments I’ve received was when someone told me that I was a very inspirational artist.

8. What do you like about your work?
I like that it allows me to express myself.

9. What advice would you give to other artists?
Feel free to do what you like, don’t try to imitate just listen to your feelings.

10. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
Everywhere ! worldwide sharing my art with people.
