Pilar Megias — ARTIST
Interview with the artist Pilar Megias —
1 .Who are you and what do you do?
Visual artist born in 1954 Granada, Spain. Resident in Portugal since 1984, I exhibit between Portugal and Spain in the Abstract and Expressionist style. After taking a break for professional and family reasons, I dedicated myself to art since 2003, where I use canvas to express my vision of the universe, emotions, textures and details of nature.
2. Why art?
Art allows us to expand our thoughts and imagination, which is why it is a form of expression and language.
3. What is your first memory of wanting to be an artist?
Since I was a child, drawing and painting attracted me, I already demonstrated aptitude at school with results that the teachers admired.
4. What are your favorite subjects and “media”?
The details and textures of nature are what motivates me most, transmitting emotions, awakening views and alerts about the planet and the universe.
5. How do you work and approach your subject?
When I see something that conveys emotions and awakens my gaze, I take it to the canvas. I like to go to the canvas without anything defined in my mind and let the moment flow. I like to work with different types of surfaces and materials. Explore and invent new techniques, Acrylic and oil predominate.
6. What do your artworks look like?
My works of art are a symbol of the way I look at nature and how it attracts me. I convey its beauty to the canvas in an abstract and expressionistic way, with some critical sense and emotion.
7. What are the best reactions you’ve had to your work?
The reactions that stand out to me are the comments when people recognize and like my work and purposefully go to my exhibitions, commenting that they are much more beautiful and interesting in person.
10. How do you see the future in 5 to 10 years?
I hope to have an even wider audience that continues to appreciate my work. May they recognize my style and artistic identity anywhere.
