Tia Beale — MUSIC
Interview with singer/songwriter and actress Tia Beale —
1.Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Tia, I’m a singer/ songwriter and an actress
2. Why music?
Even though I went to a music school, I never saw myself pursuing music as a career. On the off chance I did a course with one of my old singing teachers as my last hurrah and he inspired me to go for it.
3. What is your earliest memory of wanting to be involved in music?
My earliest memory/ greatest performance was when I did a scene from Priscilla Queen of the Desert. I must have been about 7, I wore a mermaid costume, Moon Boots and I got my cousin to throw an empty can. I guess I’ve just been surrounded by music and everything artsy my whole life.
4. What are your favourite subject(s) and style(s)?
I have a really eclectic taste in music styles, it’s more a love of different songs from all over the place but I love love LOVE a lot of funk from the 70’s and a bit of rock too.
5. How do you work and approach a new piece that you are working on?
New ideas/ pieces kind of come to me and then from there I develop it into something a little more substantial and then I take it to my producer.
6. What are your favourite musician(s), singer(s)?
Favourite musicians would be Freddie Mercury, Stevie Nicks, Michael Kiwanuka and of course LIZZO!
7. What are the best responses you have had to your work?
Recently, one of my songs became an audience favourite on a radio station. So that was really exciting that it’s not just my parents listening to it.
8. What do you like about your work?
I love how it’s a jumble of different emotions, there’s a bit of sadness and heartbreak but also love, joy and FUN!
9. What advice would you give to other musicians?
Ahh! I don’t know, sometimes I feel like I’ve barely got it figured out myself. I’d say just enjoy the process of creating music and mute out the rest of it.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
I’m hoping in 5-10 years to develop and grow as an artist and do a lot of exciting things in the arts.
