Gilly Sephira — ARTIST/MUSICIAN
Interview with artist/musician Gilly Sephira —
1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Verderio Cristina, also known as Gilly Sephira. I’m 29 and I’m from northern Italy. I am a creative and polyhedric (many sided) person, both artistically and professionally, emerging in several different directions.
2. Why art?
Art is the only way I’ve always had to express myself. It’s like a physiological need, independent from the success or the number of performed activities and which has been part of me since childhood.
3. What is your earliest memory of wanting to be an artist?
I think the Artist born with some innate predisposition, which allows the vehicle of expression to manifest spontaneously, without forcing, desire… The desire can appear only after the occurrence of something innate and that’s where you choose to follow your own path. I hope, sooner or later, to develop all my life, both working and not, on my expressive activities.
4. What are your favorite subject(s) and media(s)?
I developed my work in different areas, but I love every kind of artistic expression. I focused especially on photography, opera singing, poetry, graphics, tarot reading and, only recently as an experiment, “alternative” modeling.
5. How do you work and approach your subject?
Creation is instantaneous, especially in photography and poetry; it is like a lightning running through my whole person and that ultimately manifests itself through an image or a word. In principle, the source of my expressivity has no shape and I try to manifest it the better way at the end of my creative process.
6. What are your favorite art work(s), artist(s)?
I will name only two names among all the artists and the arts that I love (otherwise the list would definitely be longer!). The marvelous soprano Mariella Devia and Giorgio de Chirico as metaphysical artists.
7. What are the best responses you have had to your work?
I usually receive good responses to my works, especially in the artistic field and singing performances referring to my ability, technique and creativity.
8. What do you like about your work?
Everything! Because it expresses every single part of who I am.
9. What advice would you give to other artists?
To try not to lose sight of their spark and vision.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
As now, with my amazing husband, but only happier, in a more stable and rich from all points of view. As if I had achieved (and deserved) everything I’ve worked on so far.
